Annuities and non-taxpayers

  • If you are a non-taxpayer you can no longer get your retirement annuities paid with no tax taken off by filling in a form R89 or form R86 (if the annuities are held jointly).

  • Instead you will simply receive your annuity payments under the PAYE system. As a non-taxpayer you have more tax free allowances than income. This means you should pay no tax before you get the annuity.

  • You can also get more general information on how retirement annuities are taxed here including a helpline number.
