Tax help - Students
Tax helpStudents Search Help

The tax system for students was originally designed when there was generally not a need to work during term times to make ends meet. Those days are past.

We aim in this section to help relieve the student of worry about paying unnecessary tax and to try and shine some light on the difficult world of student loans.

Here we try to cover a range of the tax problems that current students are likely to encounter and we hope that you will find what you want to know.

Most topics in this section have been tailored to the needs of students. However there are some general topics which apply to everyone and students may find useful - for example coding notices, self assessment. You might also want to look at untaxed income such as rents or interest paid with no tax taken off. We also have a section specifically aimed at offering guidance for disabled people which you can have a look at here.

You can also find some information on how Education Maintenance Allowance works.

If you have a particular problem that does not appear to be covered in our advice then we would be grateful if you would contact us.

You can see our published report on the tax plight of students if you go here.

Throughout this site we can only offer general guidance on tax topics and you should always obtain specific advice before taking any action.
