Working for yourself

The rules about being employed or being self-employed are quite complex. If someone offers you work and gives you a "choice" of being employed or self-employed or tells you that you are self-employed DON'T assume that they know what they are talking about.

If you are confident that you are self-employed the Revenue provide a lot of support for people starting up in business. Please visit the Revenue website for some useful help on this.

If you do think you are self employed you will need to advise your local tax office within 3 months of your start date. You can find further information on this here.
