Perhaps the best way of seeing the activities of the Low Incomes Tax Reform group is to go to the Work in progress section of the website. There we show the range of issues that we have identified and what we are trying to do to achieve change.

  • We research particular areas that may be giving cause for concern and we write reports recommending change
  • We examine Finance Bills and similar legislation for provisions which may adversely affect the constituencies we try and represent and then propose alternatives
  • We establish Panels of people who are in those constituencies in order for them to feed to us their day-to-day experiences of the tax system
  • We "mystery shop" to test whether the services provided by the Revenue and other government departments are as promised
  • We sit on numerous tax consultative groups and put forward the perspective of the taxpayer who cannot afford to pay for tax advice
  • We established face to face clinics for older people and created the TOP programme. Subsequently we formed a new charity, Tax Volunteers, to take over and expand that work.
  • We support other charities who may not have in-depth tax expertise to fathom the intricacies of taxation
