It is sometimes difficult for non taxpayers and those on very low incomes to find information about how tax affects them. To start with we explain what a non-taxpayer is so that you can see if this is you. Once you have decided that it is, you can delve further into this part of the site where we have gathered together information on the main areas that affect you and this is set out in the various topics such as interest or annuities - registering to receive interest without tax taken off and how to claim a repayment. We also have a quick look at Gift Aid and explain why this is usually not a good idea for non-taxpayers. |

This section has been written especially for non-taxpayers. In some cases the information we give also relates to 10% starting rate for savings taxpayers as well and we let you know when this is the case. The old 10% tax rate which everyone got was abolished from the end of 2007/08. You can find out more about the changes by using the link to Which tax rate applies to me?. We explain firstly what a non-taxpayer is. We then we look at your interest and annuities and how to get them paid without any tax being taken off. We often find that non-taxpayers are eligible for tax repayments and we have therefore included a section on how to claim your repayment.
