Interest and non-taxpayers

  • You will have to fill in a form R85 or a large print version of form R85 for each bank or building society account where you want your interest to be paid without any tax deducted. You can get the form from your bank or building society or you can download it here.
  • You need to keep a check on your income, and if it goes above the level of your allowances for any tax year you must contact your bank or building society and let them know. They will then start to take tax off your interest again.
  • Ask your tax office for help if you think you may have overpaid tax in the past - they will let you have a form R40 to fill in to claim back any overpaid tax. You can find more detail on completing the form here
