Do I have to pay NIC on my earnings while I am a student?

I'm afraid so. If you earn more than a certain amount your employer is obliged to deduct NIC from your wages. How much NIC your employer deducts depends entirely on how much you earn in the week or month. Current NIC rates and amounts can be found in Tax facts and figures

It's not all bad news though, because any NIC you pay gets recorded on your contributions record and helps count towards your State pension in the dim and distant future.
