Benefits & tax credits

It is worth checking whether you can claim any state benefits whilst you are a student. Unfortunately benefit entitlement for students can be a very complex area. For this reason it is impossible for us to cover all of the rules on these website pages.

You can find general information on a number of benefits on the DWP website by clicking here

The NUS also have a useful leaflet Students and Social Security Benefits 2006/07 - a link to the 2007/08 version of the leaflet will be included here once it is available or alternatively have a look at the list of 2007/08 Welfare Information Sheets in case any others might be of use.

To find out about Incapacity Benefit please use the link.

If you are a disabled student we recommend that you have a look on the Disability Alliance website where there is a really useful checklist of benefits you might be entitled to.
