Can I claim the dividend credit on my shares back if I don't have to pay tax in any year?

Unfortunately, no. Any dividend you may receive counts towards your tax-free personal allowance (if you are aged under 65, you can have income of up to £6,475 in the year ending on 5 April 2011) and comes with a 10% dividend credit attached. This 10% dividend credit counts towards any tax you may have to pay if you have to pay tax, but if you don't have to pay tax you cannot claim it back.
