Tax Credits

Tax Credits were introduced in April 2003. Since then, claimants and advisers alike have struggled to deal with the complexities of the system.

There are two tax credits – working tax credit (WTC) and child tax credit (CTC) both administered by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

This part of the website is split into two sections.

The first is for claimants and people who want to know only the basics about tax credits, and is covered through a series of factsheets. This section is useful if you just want an overview of the tax credit system, such as who can claim and how to claim.

The second section is for advisers and people who want to find out more detailed information about tax credits. This section is useful if you want more technical information such as how to calculate tax credits accurately.
