Tax credits for claimants

Tax credits are a benefit paid by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The tax credit system is well known for being very complex and many claimants find it hard to understand the system. We have therefore started to develop a series of new, basic factsheets which explain how some of the important parts of the tax credit system work. These factsheets are intended to give basic information only and it is not our intention to cover things in detail.
