HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) are encouraging employees, who have to spend their own money on things to do their job, to claim tax relief. You can work out whether or not you are eligible to claim using a guide and a new tool on GOV.UK. If you are eligible to claim, you can generally do so yourself for free, via an online form or by posting HMRC a form P87.

The loan charge date of 5th April 2019 is drawing ever closer. HMRC say that if you want to reach a settlement with them to avoid the loan charge but missed the 30 September registration deadline, you should still come forward.

We have been made aware that our website has been targeted as part of a phishing/spoof scam. This means that you may receive an email that appears to come from Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG) (with an email address ending .litrg.org.uk) saying you may be entitled to a tax refund from HMRC. It may ask you to click a link within the email or open an attachment – do not open it!

HMRC are taking action (the April 2019 ‘loan charge’) against certain loan arrangements (‘disguised remuneration’ schemes) that were designed to avoid tax, leaving many workers with potentially huge bills to pay. HMRC appreciate that not everyone entered into these arrangements knowingly to avoid tax.
