Universal credit draft regulations - LITRG response

Published on 27 August 2012

In commenting on the Department for Work and Pensions’ draft regulations on universal credit, LITRG have warned that many aspects of these regulations require much further thought. Overall, getting them to the state where they will support, and not detract from, Government policy objectives, and doing so in the time available, will be a considerable challenge

LITRG’s formal response to the draft regulations, on which the Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) have been consulting, deals with three main aspects:

  • the proposals for the self-employed, particularly the minimum income floor;
  • the implications of a substantial shift to online filing; and
  • the consequences for claimants falling outside the real-time information (RTI) system.
