Explanatory Notes for Bills and Acts: Pilot Scheme
LITRG has responded to a consultation about a proposed new format for the Explanatory Notes that are issued with each new Act of Parliament, including those affecting taxation and state benefits.
Although the new format appears to be an improvement in some ways, facilitating easier navigation, LITRG asks Government to consult with groups representing the needs of different types of disabled people to ensure that the physical appearance of the notes is as clear as possible. In addition LITRG requests that the notes perform more of an explanatory task rather than using the same or similar language to the legislation.
