Comment guidelines

We are always keen to hear of problems that people are experiencing with the tax system that will feed into our work. We also welcome feedback on our website materials. We cannot provide individual advice or answer specific tax questions. 

If you wish to post a comment on any part of our website where this feature is available, please ensure your comment meets the guidelines below. If you wish to comment on any part of our website where this feature is not available, please use the contact us page

We moderate all comments. We will not publish any comment that breaches the guidelines below. We may, on occasion, and at our discretion, edit comments to meet the guidelines where doing so does not change the nature of the comment. Where we do this, it will be indicated at the end of the comment once published.

Where we decide not to publish a comment, you will not be notified. 

Guidelines

We will not approve comments which:

  • include any personal details of any person such as names, email address, telephone numbers, financial information such as national insurance number or any other identifying information.
  • use language that is offensive, inflammatory or provocative (this includes, but is not limited to, swearing, obscene or vulgar comments)
  • incite hatred on the basis of any personal characteristic 
  • advertise commercial service, products or publications or link to external websites (unless relevant to the comment) 
  • break the law – this includes libel, condoning illegal activity and breaking copyright laws
  • impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or organisation
  • are not in line with the values of the Chartered Institute of Taxation
  • contain spam
  • are repetitive negative messages which aim to provoke a response or do not constructively add to the conversation 
  • are disrespectful to other website users or are abusive or disruptive in any way
  • are political in nature 
  • are not related to the topic in any way
  • are not written in the English language – this is because we cannot check them against our guidelines 
  • impersonate others 
  • contain the same, or very similar, content posted multiple times whether by the same person or different people
