In recent times there have been several fraudulent attacks on HMRC. Attacks may be carried out by organised criminal groups, and further attempts are likely. Ensuring your online tax account remains secure helps protects your finances, your identity, and public money from misuse.

Our new page of guidance explains:

  • more about recent scams targeting HMRC accounts and how criminals obtain personal details from both taxpayers and their agents
  • simple steps you can take to protect yourself, such as checking your online tax account login history and strengthening your passwords
  • what to do if you suspect your account has been compromised

It also outlines the risks of not protecting your account, what HMRC is doing to keep accounts secure, and where to get help.

Read the full guidance on our website.
