Announcement – HMRC Cost of living payment text messages

Announcements

Today, 9 February 2024, HMRC will be sending a text message to eligible tax credit claimants reminding them of the payment dates for the next cost of living payment.

HMRC say that they are sending text messages to tax credit claimants who are eligible for the next cost of living payment and for whom they hold up-to-date phone numbers. The text message will direct recipients to GOV.UK for more information as well as reminding them of the payment dates for the next payment.

The next payment will be paid to eligible tax credit claimants who are not receiving other qualifying DWP benefits between 16th and 22nd of February 2024. The amount will be £299. HMRC say you do not need to contact them to apply – payment will be automatically made into the bank account that tax credits are paid into if you are eligible.

The text message will not contain any links to websites or ask for a response, personal details or financial information.

Tax credit claimants can check advice on scams on GOV.UK and check if contact from HMRC is genuine by going to a special GOV.UK page.

Getting a text message about the next cost of living payment or receiving a previous payment does not guarantee you will receive a further payment. You can check if you are eligible for a cost of living payment on GOV.UK.
