Tax Awareness Week

Tax Awareness Week runs from 9-13 March 2026 and is a joint educational initiative by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) aimed at increasing public understanding of tax obligations, highlighting the benefits of using qualified tax advisers for those can afford advice and showcasing the wide range of careers available in tax. We are also sharing resources that are available to help people increase their tax confidence – including the LITRG website!

You can read more about Tax Awareness Week on both the CIOT and ATT websites.

The LITRG website

Our website contains hundreds of pages of free guidance on key tax topics, written in clear and accessible language. Visitors can find information on areas such as:

  • Income tax and National Insurance
  • Self-employment and gig economy work
  • Pensions and retirement income
  • Universal Credit and Tax-free Childcare
  • Savings, investments and property taxes
  • International tax issues for those coming to or leaving the UK
  • Dealing with HMRC enquiries and appeals

This wide range of content makes the site useful for employees, self-employed workers, pensioners, students, migrants and anyone who wants to understand how tax rules affect them.

An exciting development for this year: We have launched a new Making Tax Digital Information Hub which contains a wealth of information for sole traders and landlords affected by the Making Tax Digital rules from April 2026 onwards.

We also publish regular new articles covering topical tax issues and provide updates on the important policy work that we do alongside our education work. You can register for news updates on our website.

A trusted source of information

Each year millions of people visit the LITRG website for guidance on tax and related benefits. The information provided is widely used and trusted – not only by members of the public, but also by advisers, journalists and charities looking for clear explanations of complex tax issues.

Helping people help themselves

Although we do not provide individual tax advice, our website can equip people with the knowledge they need to deal more confidently with their tax affairs and to understand where to go for further help if needed. Our mission is to improve people’s understanding of the tax system while also working to make that system fairer and more accessible. For those who can afford to pay for advice, we have information about how to find a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser or member of the Association of Taxation Technicians.
