LITRG website updated for the new tax year
The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG) website has been fully updated for the 2026/27 tax year, giving journalists a valuable resource when researching and reporting tax stories.
Journalists looking for independent information and guidance for their reporting on the UK tax system can:
- Bookmark www.litrg.org.uk.
- Register to receive website updates.
- Get in touch with the media relations team with questions or to speak with one of LITRG’s tax experts.
This year the LITRG website includes a dedicated Making Tax Digital Hub providing clear, practical and free guidance for unrepresented taxpayers on the roll-out of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, the biggest change to the tax system since the introduction of self assessment. MTD was mandated for some people from 6 April 2026 and there is expected to be heightened interest ahead of the first quarterly reporting deadline of 7 August 20261.
Journalists looking for tax information to assist their reporting will also be able to find guidance on other tax topics including:
- Income tax and National Insurance for individuals, employers and the self-employed workers.
- Pensions and the tax system.
- Information for taxpayers arriving or leaving the UK.
- Savings and property taxes, including capital gains tax.
- How the tax and benefits system interact with one another.
- Dealing with HMRC.
Each year, millions of people visit the LITRG website for help with their tax affairs2. The website continues to be cited by the independent House of Commons Library as a useful source for tax information3.
Notes for editors
- Quarterly updates with Making Tax Digital (HMRC)
